2026 | master’s thesis @FH JOANNEUM about creating a guide for video game accessibility.
This thesis examines how video game accessibility is communicated, what demand exists for it, and which barriers current games already address. Based on a literature review, a survey and interviews, it finds strong demand across physical, cognitive, visual, and auditory disabilities but a lack of implementation awareness among game makers. To support integration, it synthesizes existing guidelines into a card deck – the Array of Barriers – and an accompanying booklet, available physically and as a printable digital version.
What is the Array of Barriers?
The Array of Barriers is a tool that helps you identify accessibility barriers in your video games and find solutions for them. While playing games, players face various challenges and barriers. With the Array of Barriers, you can navigate these various barriers and create more accessible games.
